Leguminosae. Zones 8-11. A deciduous shrub to small tree producing lacy, bipinnate foliage eight to ten inches long, mimosa-like in appearance, and erect racemes, one foot or more in length, with 30 to 40 flowers each on inch long stalks in the warm months. Extremely showy flowers have yellow petals and immense scarlet stamens. Sometimes is damaged by temperatures below 15 degrees, but generally recovers and blooms the following summer. Ours are grown from seed from south-central Texas. Full sun, well-drained soil.
