Leguminosae. Zones 8-11. Red, orange and yellow blooms with long red stamens somewhat resemble orchids floating at the terminal ends of the branches in summer and into fall in South Florida. A somewhat tender shrub, usually killed back by frost in climates colder than zone 10, but reliably returns in the spring. Blooms on new wood so no bloom is lost. Can reach eight to ten feet tall and become woody in South Florida. Can easily be grown as an indoor container specimen in a bright window, greenhouse or sunroom. Enjoys full sun, well-drained soil, and is moderately drought tolerant.
