Zingiberaceae. Zones 8-11. Produces typical ginger stalks of strap-like foliage with reddish undersides sessily attached to the stem, terminated by beautiful, large, reddish-orange flowers. To four feet plus tall. Attracts butterflies and other friendly flying critters. Full sun to light afternoon part shade, well-drained, organically enriched soil. Plants should be planted deeper and heavily mulched with pine needles in Zone 7 (see Weird Dude's Philosophy page).
