Leguminosae. Zones 9-11. Often used as a reforestation tree in tropical areas for its ability to quickly reestablish soils where trees have been stripped from the land. Beautiful mimosa-like foliage topped with white ball-shaped blossoms almost year round. Great plant where rapid growth and immediate shade is desired. Can be grown as a dieback in climates colder than zone 10. We have one in our main greenhouse in Virginia, unheated for the last three winters, which continues to re-emerge after temperatures in the single digits. This is a plant worthy of experimentation in colder climates. Grows too fast to work as a container subject unless your ceilings are very high. Nitrogen fixing and can make a dramatic statement in one season's time. Marty really likes this tree.
