Bignoniaceae. Zones 8-10 (7b). Our seed source for this plant hails from McClennan County, Texas. Can grow to be a large shrub to small tree in mild climates, but is often treated as a semi-woody perennial in most zones. The bright green foliage somewhat resembles elderberry and is arranged oppositely on squarish stems. Two inch long sunshine yellow trumpets are borne in large clusters at the end of the stems, literally bending the stems toward the ground throughout the growing season (May through October for most of us). Blooms fall while still open and create a golden garland at the base of the plant, further enhancing this plant's value in the garden. Mixes in well with large blue agaves as a background. Truly spectacular and well worth growing indoors in colder zones. Allow new buds to emerge from the stems or the base before pruning dead wood in spring. Good mulch recommended in colder zones. Full sun and very well-drained soil is best.
